Saturday 25th of March was a meeting of the Com.It.Es Presidents of Australia along with CGIE representative, the Hon Marco Fedi (Italian MP) and Counsellor Dott Pier Luigi Gentile (Deputy Head of Mission of the Italian Embassy).
In a productive meeting, it was decided to inform Italy
- to increase funding for the teaching of Italian language and culture here in Australia, and to
- reduce the new proposed threshold of 10,000 to the existing 3,000 Italians abroad in order to allow for the existence of a Com.It.Es within that consular region.
Furthermore, following the meeting, a business Luncheon was hosted in conjunction with the South Australian Italian Association and with the kind sponsorship of Mr Sebastian Galipo. Mr Mark Quaglia (President of Com.It.Es SA) and co-ordinator of the Inter Com.It.Es meeting introduced guests and set the scene to the importance of the bilateral relations between Italy and South Australia within the business, trade, science and technology areas, bring reciprocal benefits to both Italy and Australia. Following on from this the luncheon featured two presentations by Prof Angela Scarino which showcased the importance of teaching languages to the economy and Dr Sergio Ferro on his scientific and technology patent work for ECAS4 here in SA.
